Takebayashi Kei
Takebayashi Kei is a luxury fashion brand and web design project undertaken by myself and 2 other developers, in a concept created to push my design skills and their development skills.
Creating a design system
Given the expedited nature of this project, we had to quickly make decisions based off of both common design principles and our own intuition. A design system was developed as a way of reducing developer fatigue and to ensure the final site would come our clean and concise.
The final product
The design stage of this project took around 3 weeks, and resulted in a package consisting of a thorough design language and system, core pages such as the homepage, product listings and description pages as well as responsive versions of these for desktop, tablet and mobile. I believe I brought a luxury and sytlistic, yet usable and accessible experience, that scored highly when usability testing with online users. eCommerce is a tricky design discipline, given itβs nature of needing to be usable, conversion-led and brand heavy. It was a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed given my current agency and freelance experience, and I hope to be able to continue with this project in the future if it makes it out of the development cycle.
A Retrospective
This project was an interesting look into my current skills as a designer, as well as areas upon which I can continue to improve upon. I managed to improve in my understanding of development cycles, as well as the limitations that developers face when being handed over designs. I also believe that I have a newfound appreciation for design languages and systems, as they ended up being pivotal in saving time both within the design and development stages. I believe I still have a ways to go in expanding my design knowledge to cross all fields, and I know that as my agency work and freelance work expands, so to will my understanding of design as a whole.
